Aida (アイーダ), also known as the Flameeater (火喰鳥), is a jaeger introduced in Trails through Daybreak.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Aida is a young woman with pale red eyes and long wavy greenish-black hair tied up into a high ponytail and with a strand left to cover one eye. She wears a variation of the Eisenschild uniform, consisting of gray camouflage combat trousers with thigh high black boots, black ammunition pouches and matching long gloves, a red tank top with a reinforced metal neck guard and the corps emblem printed in gold.

Aida uses a customised rifle in combat. The rifle was modified for maximum fire power while keeping aim steady, and it was noted that extreme proficiency would be needed to get used to it.

Personality[]

Aida is described as an older sister type figure. She gives helpful advice to her 'younger sisters' but as a jaeger, has no qualms about fighting them on the battlefield either.

Background[]

Aida is a former member and commander of the Zephyr jaeger corps and built a reputation as the Flameeater - someone who can precisely target enemy forces as they rise up while cutting into their morale. After it disbanded, she went her own way and joined another corps, Eisenschild, 5 years prior to the story, where her skills quickly led to her a company commanding position. Eisenschild and the Khurga would have made encounters as enemies and allies over the years and Aida came to know Feri Al-Fayed.

Feri remarks that she is one of the most talented members, and had taught her about all sorts of things including the Septian Church, fashion trends, and combat tactics.

Van Arkride came to know her indirectly in an operation two years ago, most likely Mille Mirage, where he noted she made an effort to avoid her old haunts.

Trails through Daybreak[]

Aida is first seen engaging in combat alongside Eisenschild against the Warriors of Kruga, fighting Feri. After the combat, Aida laments her corps couldn't achieve at least a draw but gives advice to Feri. Following the conflict, Eisenschild was heading back home, but Aida's company never made it back, being waylaid by Hercules for training organised by René Kincaid. The exercise was to surround and capture the jaegers, but under Aida, they were able to break through and escape. Feri contacts the Arkride Solutions Office to help her find Aida. After contacting René, they decide that Creil is her most likely location.

In truth, after eluding the Hercules forces, Aida and her company had been beset by Melchior, Arioch, and Olympia of Almata and viciously massacred. Regaining consciousness, she realized the nature of what she and the others were becoming and began to take measures. Aida no longer had need for sustenance and began to shun sunlight. She visited the village for gasoline, solvents and wire, sending some final letters and was spotted by the locals on such occasions. The party track her down to a stone circle on the outskirts of Creil where she had tied up her company, who had all become ghouls, and was preparing to immolate them all. She notes that the Genesis was the cause but couldn't climb the pillar to stop it. Aida urges the party to leave her as she felt her sense of self leave her, remarking that they looked delicious and she wanted to devour their flesh.

Melchior reveals himself and frees the thrashing ghoul jaegers, forcing Aida and the ghouls to fight the party. After the battle, the flesh of all the jaegers combines into Aida, transforming them into a new being, Famished Flameeater, Ghoul Aida (渇きし火喰鳥 アイーダ=グーラ). This being is defeated and Aida restored, but she is dying now that the Genesis is inactive. She begs Feri for death, with corps commander Geraint Reigar and Hasan Al-Fayed arriving to see her final moments. Feri is unable to deliver a fatal blow, despite the urging of her father, and Van acts in her stead, killing Aida. She says farewell in her final moments and states that she is finally coming home to Rutger.

Feri relates the story of her death to Fie Claussell, who had a similar relationship to her. She mentions that she went out just like the Boss and was "super cool" until the end. Later, the pair would bond over repairing Aida's rifle, left to her by Eisenschild as a memoir. By defeating Almata, they comment that they have finally gotten justice and revenge for Aida.
