The Domain of Penance (
Background[]
The Domain of Passion is modeled after the mind of its host, Arios MacLaine. The Domain is covered in chains, representing Arios' guilt and the burdens of his choices, which resulted in the death of Guy Bannings and KeA's ascension to godhood. Gates and mechanisms lock the path forward, needing keys found in chests protected by monsters.
The Special Support Section enter the Domain of Penance after reaching the end of the Azure Tree's Third and final Sanctuary, with the elevator beyond the barrier leading to the Farthest End of the tree. The Domain needs Lloyd Bannings and the SSS to be accessed, as Arios represents the final barrier they must overcome to take KeA back.
The group finds Arios at the end of his Domain, ready to answer Lloyd's questions. He confirms Ian Grimwood was the mastermind behind the Azure-Zero Project, with his motivation being the airship crash that took his family and Lloyd and Guy's parents. Grimwood had deduced it had been the result of a covert war between the two major powers, which also caused the accident where Saya MacLaine died, and recruited Arios for the project.
Arios also confirms he was the one that switched the Rosenberg doll at the Schwarze Auction with KeA, intending to bring down Revache and awaken her. Finally, Lloyd asks for his full version of the death of Guy, who had deduced the existence of the project and the majority of their plans. Arios and Guy had fought, with neither wanting to back down, but Lloyd deduces Arios couldn't have been the killer. After defeating Arios, Lloyd deduces it was Grimwood himself who shot Guy, and Arios admits the true recollection of events before falling unconscious and opening the final barrier.
