Dirke Memorial Park

Dirke Memorial Park (ディルク記念公園) is a large park near Edith, Calvard.

Background[]

The park is outside of the city proper, but can be reached after travelling on the highway. It is within walking distance but taking the bus or driving is usually the way to get there. Van Arkride estimates it to be about a 30 minute trip from the Eighth District. Usually a bus comes by to drop of groups of sightseers, but it can be closed to the public when monster activity is high.

The park is a very special place to the residents of the capital. Families use it as a spot for picnics and it is a popular date spot. there are lots of areas full of nature. It is also a good spot for training. At the entrance a statue of Sheena Dirke stands in greeting. The park was opened in her memory after she died, and was dedicated to the preservation of nature.

Some areas of the park are more maintained than others. There are stories of some people falling into one of the ponds. More than one lake is present in the park. the largest lake is approximately 90,000 square arge. Its waters are extremely clear, allowing it to reflect the evening's light in an aesthetically pleasing way. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful sights in the Republic.

Within the parks boundaries are the Twin Falls (双子滝), waterfalls. They are made up of the smaller Younger Brother (弟滝) and Elder Brother (兄滝) waterfalls. The Elder brother is to the west of the other, and is so named for the larger head.

The largest tree in the park is called the Millennium Tree. White Marguerite flowers bloom around the entrance to the forested area of the park.

In the past, Van used to come to the park with Elaine Auclair.

At at undetermined point in Chapter 2, a traffic jam caused by a large monster on the national highway heading the direction of Dirke Memorial Park was resolved by the Bracer Guild.

The CID has Van conduct monster extermination requests here. In chapter 3, Van and the party head to the park for the first time on a mission on one such request. They are briefed by the park attendant who comments bracers often take on this kind of work. After clearing the monster, they notice Nina Fenly and a film crew, United Star, filming Scene 17, part 2 of a film. The film crew are ambushed by monsters but Van and the party come to their aid. Fie Claussell also joins in to assist.

Dirke Memorial Park is one of the locations Van and Dingo Brad test the orbal waves and their ability to transmit data. It is also the trade off point for Van's request with Rumsfeld tracking down Basilea. The Genatus Nubia monster is also dispatched here later on.

Dirke Memorial Park is the location Maxim Lugan used to date Paulette. They buried a time capsule her with a photograph taken together near the Millennium Tree. Van and the party help escort Maxim through the park to retrieve the capsule. Van and the party use a spider monster, Lagrantula, here to invoke an appearance from Mare in relatively low risk conditions. They quiz her on her nature and background, but are unable to hear some of the information due to being unable to comprehend certain key terms used by Mare. Nevertheless, thanks to the data collected by Quatre Salision, the Grendel can be called on more freely from this point on.
