The Sealed Area (
Trails in the Sky FC[]
Background[]
The Sealed Area is discovered by Colonel Richard and the Intelligence Division in his quest to find the Aureole and use it to put Liberl in a position of power. After the drilling operation first reaches the hidden facility, he and 2nd Lieutenant Lorence are attacked by archaisms, but they swiftly destroy them.
Estelle, Joshua, Scherazard, Olivier, Kloe and Zin discover the elevator built in the castle's treasury after rescuing Queen Alicia, who unlocks it for them and asks them to stop Colonel Richard. They're joined by Professor Russell, Tita and Agate, who join them on the descent to the Sealed Area while the Queen, 1st Lieutenant Julia Schwarz and the Royal Guardsmen stay behind to cover them.
Proceeding through the hallways of the facility and undaunted by the archaisms left behind, the bracers reach the halfway hall where Captain Amalthea reappears to stop them, having retreated from the castle after her previous defeat. Now able to partially control the archaisms, she is defeated once again as the bracers push forward down to the bottom level, the deepest part of the facility.
There, Colonel Richard is trying to use a Gospel to activate the ancient device. He explains that his goal was to obtain an ace for Liberl's army now that Cassius Bright, and the Aureole was meant to be it. Estelle and Joshua refute him, and point out that Richard had no way of knowing the location of the facility, accusing him of having had his memories altered like Kurt Nardin had. Richard responds by engaging in combat, with the bracers managing to push back until the Gospel activates the Orbal Shutdown Phenomenon.
However, instead of revealing the Aureole, the ancient Ring Guardian Reverie is released. The bracers fight the Reverie and seemingly disable it, but the Guardian stands up again while they're too tired to move. Colonel Richard intercepts it by himself, and is almost defeated when Cassius arrives and frees him with a single strike, making an opening for the others to finally destroy Reverie.
After confirming the situation aboveground as secure, Cassius confronts Richard for putting him on a pedestal, and demands that he atones as he arrests him.

Trails in the Sky SC[]
Background[]
Julia Schwarz escorts Kevin Graham to see the Sealed Area and the Reverie, and they discuss the nature of the Aureole and the facility's purpose, which Kevin seems to understand.
During Estelle and Joshua's attempts to stop the Enforcers at the Tetracyclic Towers, they find terminals with Data crystals that explain the Seal Mechanism used to seal the Aureole and the purpose of the Sealed Area.
The entire facility is the remains of Celeste D. Auslese's secret facility where she and fifteen companions worked to undo the influence of the Aureole and seal it away to save their people. They succeeded in their task with moments to spare, as the plan was leaked when the Aureole probed the mind of someone connected to the plan. The facility was attacked by Reveries, with one breaching the defenses and nearly making it to the sealing mechanism at the bottom level before being cut off when the Aureole was sealed in an alternate dimension, deactivating. This same Reverie was the one Estelle and Joshua had to fight when Richard undid the first seal. The Auslese family then built the castle on top of the ruins and established the origins of Liberl, and the existence of the facility became myth and legend in the royal family.
The underground facility's function was to draw energy from the surrounding septium veins. The light fired from the facility would reflect on the Ahnenburg's inner wall, converging on the Aureole floating in the sky and sending it to another dimension. The facility would then keep the Aureole frozen in time, preventing its energy from reaching the Reveries until the mechanism was disabled by Richard's Gospel. Afterwards, the Device Towers were activated, acting as a second layer to the seal and preventing the Aureole from escaping the dimension.
Trails in the Sky the 3rd[]
Background[]
Kevin, Ries and Julia reach the Sealed Area after obtaining the key to the castle's Treasury from a mysterious ghost. In the Sealed Area, they find the elevator immediately after the hall, which tips Kevin towards the nature of Phantasma and what lies ahead. The elevator takes them to the bottom level instantly, where they find the Lord of Phantasma waiting for them.
The Lord confirms Kevin's suspicion: the Grancel they've been investigating is a replica of the real city, modified for their purpose. The Lord also reveals a Sealing Stone in their possession, offering it as the final reward of the Second Plane, and summons Rostrum the Savage, one of the Seventy-Seven Devils that guards the gates of hell.
After defeating Rostrum, the Lord gives them the Sealing Stone, and Kevin tries to interrogate them. The Lord answers cryptically and taunts Kevin, goading him into shooting them down. However, Kevin reveals the figure in front of them to be an illusion, and prompts the rest to return to the Hermit's Garden to release Kloe and Sieg before continuing on.
