Kevin Graham (ケビン・グラハム), also known under his alias as Heretic Hunter (
Contents
Background
Appearance
Kevin is a young man with blue eyes and messy green hair arranged in spikes. he wears a hoop ear piercing in his right ear. Kevin is almost always seen in his Gralsritter uniform, consisting of a plum coloured long sleeve shirt and trousers with a red and red cropped jacket and matching tail attachment around his waist. He wears three belts around his thighs, two one one leg, one on the other, as well as speakers in black and red.
Kevin makes use of a traditional Gralsritter bowgun as his weapon. There is a golden disk in the centre of the stock featuring the symbol of the church.
Personality
While not on the job, Kevin is extremely carefree and appears to be quite the womanizer, trying to find and spend time with any woman that gets his attention. He is also kind, helping out children or those down on their luck, giving them advice to lift their mood. Behind this helpful personality lies a dark side, though he rarely, if ever, shows it to anyone.
When undergoing an operation for the Church, Kevin drops most of his antics to ensure his mission will be successful. His generally carefree personality compliments the success of his missions, as it causes his opponents to greatly underestimate him. As his alias, the Heretic Hunter suggests, Kevin shows disdain toward anyone who causes the Church significant trouble.
He appears to be jealous of Joshua Bright; though they both share a similarly dark past, Kevin knows that Joshua can at least "live a proper life", whereas he cannot.
He is a huge fan of Stregas sneakers, something he has in common with Estelle, and his personal motto is to smile at all times.
Background
Kevin was as an only child raised by a single mother for most of his childhood. He regularly got beaten up by children in the neighborhood because of his dialect. He only occasionally saw his father, whom had started another family but when Kevin was seven years old, his father officially divorced his mother which devastated his mother mentally and physically, to the extent one day, she tried to end both of their lives out of despair. Escaping death from strangulation, Kevin managed to escape outside, running through the snow barefoot. After having spent an hour outside, he went back to check on his mother. By the time he came back, she had committed suicide.
In S.1189, at the age of 8, Rufina and Ries Argent found Kevin wandering the streets and introduced him to the Aster House, an orphanage in Emerose City (midwest Zemuria) that was supervised by the Septian Church. There, Kevin and Ries were mostly tasked with housework, such as sweeping the chapel. Five years later, inspired by Rufina's daily routine of diligently praying, he expressed interest in joining the Gralsritter himself. In S.1197, he was promoted by the Cardinal of the Congregation for the Sacraments to the rank of Squire among the Gralsritter at the exceptionally young age of 16, thanks to his aptitude and diligence.
In S.1198, Kevin was alerted to a group of jaegars making a move on Aster House. With Rufina delayed by a train, Kevin, worried for Ries' safety, entered the conflict alone to confront them, finding the basement of the chapel where a Primal Ground was located along with the ancient artifact known as the Magic Spear of Loa upon a pedestal. One of the jaegers grabbed the Magic Spear of Loa, transformed into a monster, and began a rampage. At that moment, Kevin's Stigma manifested and absorbed the power of the Demon Spear of Loa, piercing through the jaegers with its original power tenfold. Unable to control his new-found power, he headed toward Ries but was stopped in his tracks by the late Rufina. Once he regained his consciousness, he found Rufina perforated with his Stigma's spears on his lap.
Deeming himself unworthy of being a Gralsritter, Kevin begged Ein to kill him as she confronted him. Instead, with approval of the Pope the Congregation for the Sacraments decided to welcome Kevin as the Fifth Dominion, a position which had been vacant for several decades. Ein repeated that the Cardinal thought Rufina was an excellent knight; her ability to solve Stigma manifestations was beyond that of a Dominion and that her death can only be compensated with hope for the Fifth Dominion. Kevin started to hysterically laugh and question the decisions of the Congregation when Ein mentioned that in the Gralsritter's thousand-year history, no one had ever rejected the promotion to a Dominion. Kevin accepted the position and named himself the "Heretic Hunter".
In S.1200, he gained total control over the locations of the D∴G Cult.
Trails in the Sky SC
Kevin is first introduced as a wandering priest. When Estelle runs away from Grancel after Joshua's disappearance, it is who Kevin comes along and cheers her up and helps her deal with the reality of her situation, contacting those who care about her on her behalf. He then explains that as a wandering priest, it is his job to travel around to all of the villages and towns that don't have churches to offer them church services and to teach the kids at Sunday School. He also explains that wandering priests have much more freedom with their dress code.
Later, back in Grancel, accompanied by Julia Schwarz, he investigates the Sealed Area beneath Grancel Castle and recognizes the endpoint as a system from the late Ancient Civilization of Zemuria and likens the Reverie to something found in Calvard. He mentions the system is the path to the Aureole.
Kevin is later encountered in Manoria Village, telling the children at Sunday school the tale of The Doll Knight. After questioning Mary abou the sighting of a ghost, Kevin accompanies the group to Ruan. He states that people have also been coming to the church with complaints about a ghost and relates the church's teachings about those who do not go to either Aidios or Gehenna after death and remain as a ghost. Kevin is then seen listening in on a conversation between Lorence and Bleublanc. He is almost discovered when Lorence senses his presence, but is saved by the arrival of the drunken Ravens.
Kevin is later seen after Anelace and her partner battle the archaisms in the abandoned Ravennue Mine. Upon discovering that the men are robots, Kevin suddenly arrives with information. Kein helps Estelle fight off a Port Seeker on the Ahnenburg.
Kevin accompanies Estelle in her mission to rescue the Bracers at the Lakeside Laboratory, but is unable to stop her from being abducted by Ouroboros and taken aboard the Glorious.
After helping the party travel around the country to deal with the orbal shutdown, and before they travel to the Liber Ark, Kevin helps Joshua with the preparations to break free of his stigma by planting a wedge in his mind.
Later, he reveals himself as a Knight of the Gralsritter. At the end of the game, Kevin confronts Ouroboros's Third Anguis, Georg Weissmann, and reveals that his real mission in Liberl was to assassinate him. With a single bolt carved from the Salt Pale, he turns Weissmann into a statue of salt before Campanella intervenes, destroying the statue and taking the Sept-Terrion of Space, the Aureole. Kevin reminds himself that obtaining the Sept-Terrion was out of his jurisdiction.
Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Kevin retrieves an artefact from Hermann Conrad that lets him tell lies convincingly, after an eventful mission on board the Lusitania. Following the success of this mission, Ein Selnate dispatches him to Grancel to have a look at the newly uncovered Recluse Cube, and sends Ries Argent as backup. Following an inspection of the artefact , it is deemed to be active and sealed in the Primal ground beneath Grancel Cathedral. That night, After facing Gilbert Stein, They are transported into Phantasma by the mysterious Lord of Phantasma.
Kevin undergoes a trial of redemption. Supported by Ries, and several companions that have been transported into Phantasma, they overcome the seven planes, each filled with copies of places connected to the party or odd phase spaces, and filled with fiends, spirits and copies of people they know whom they must fight. This world is revealed to repsond to desires and has been punishing Kevin for his inner guilt and desire to atone for his perceived sins in his past.
Kevin confronts several of the Seventy-Seven Devils and confront his past, as it is revaeld that the lord of Phantasma is actually Rufina whom he killed, and is now after his suffering as a comeuppance. Ries refuses to accept this and is cast into Gehenna, the Seventh Plane where Kevin follows. There, he faces three grotesque Grimoires representing people who he considers having died by his hands and Weissman himself before being rescued.
Over the course of his journey, he comes to make peace with his Stigma and realises the truth of the world that A malicious copy of his Stigma is to blame for their imprisonment in Phantasma. Leading his party of of the planes to castle Phantasmagoria, they confront the copy of the stigmas true form, Anima Mundi and find a way to escape. Afterwards the cube is disabled without a power source and they return to the real world.
Having found peace with himself, Kevin reports to Ein and requests a change in his dominion title as he flies back from Liberl.
Ao no Kiseki
Kevin is a recruitable character in Ao no Kiseki's Prologue. He is first seen when he spots Lloyd Bannings facing off against a demonized Ernest Reis. Using the power of the Stigma and the Septian Church's Testaments, Kevin manages to revert Ernest back into his human form. After this, Kevin introduces himself to the group and they return to Altair together.
Back in Altair, Dudley expresses his dissatisfaction with Kevin's sudden appearance. Kevin explains his actions in Crossbell are closely guarded by archbishop Eralda, who is known to loathe the Gralsritter's methods, and only showed up because he owed Arios a favor. As Kevin sees Lloyd and Noel off, Gralsritter squire Ries Argent returns from shopping. Kevin says he'd rather join Ries during her stay in Crossbell, after which she reminds him of Eralda. Kevin suggests that Crossbell might live up to its nickname as the "City of Sins" soon and asks her to resort to their 'trump card' if anything happens.
Kevin appears in Crossbell when its independence is declared and the Azure Demiourgos is used to emit a huge protective forcefield around the state and power three extremely powerful Aion archaisms. Kevin appears with Ries, Abbas and fellow dominion Wazy and uses his own merkabah to draw off the Aion Type-β. The Aion, powered by a Sept-Terrion is more than a match for him though, requiring his to use the newly prepare Stigma cannon to destroy it- an act which depletes Kevin's energy entirely and render him incapable of helping for the rest of the conflict.
Trails of Cold Steel IV
Kevin was indirectly mentioned by Thomas Lysander as additional support to help deal control the situation in Erebonia alongside Wazy Hemisphere, but Kevin was unable to attend due to other issues requiring his attention. He was one of the attendees of Olivert Reise Arnor and Scherazard Harvey's wedding.
Hajimari no Kiseki
Kevin is one of the many dominion who pilot their Merkabah in the final battle against Elysium and Reverse Babel. He is not seen in person, and is only mentioned by name.
