Laegjarn's Chest, Sept-Terrion of Time

Laegjarn's Chest, Sept-Terrion of Time

Laegjarn's Chest (レーギャルンの匣) is the Sept-Terrion of Time.

Background[]

Laegjarn's Chest observes the world of Zemuria and possesses the power to rewind the world to the Great Collapse, known as the Grand Reset,[JP 1] if the world's SiN Value[JP 2] reaches a certain point. If humanity successfully enters space, the Grand Reset would be fast-forwarded to trigger within an hour and deploy defensive mechanisms, for example drones and an entity figure similar to Zoa Gilstein.

The world as of Trails beyond the Horizon is the 19,999th world, suggesting that the Grand Reset has happened many times before. It is said the Grand Reset is triggered approximately every 1,200 years. The specifics of time loops prior to the 19,999th are not known, but some artifacts originate from these earlier loops. Additionally, F. Novartis comes from the 19,998th loop, but is still present in the 19,999th through unknown means. There may be some similarities between loops, as Leman and Claude Epstein existed in the 19,998th loop in a reasonably similar state to their existence in the 19,999th. Epstein developed the prototype orbments known as the Oct-Geneses to, through interaction with blood relatives of his adopted daughter, counter and interfere with the Grand Reset.

Laegjarn is situated on the boundary of outer space, from which it has been simulating a realistic outer space for Zemuria, including the sun, moon, and stars.

Trails beyond the Horizon[]

During the events of Trails beyond the Horizon, president Roy Gramheart attempts to destroy Laegjarn's Chest during Project Startaker (also known as the Lævateinn Plan) on July 12, S.1209. Publicly, he wants to free humanity from the Chest, but privately wanted to free his daughter from suffering the same fate as her mother, Sophie Gramheart. Roy's plan fails, however, and only severely damages the outer shell.

Moments later, a few minutes after 14:00, the Grand Reset's reboot protocol is hacked by Agnès Claudel. Under the guidance of Latoya Hamilton and overseer 'Diva' Dominique Lanster, certain members of the Claudel bloodline in the 19,999th loop can use Claude Epstein's backup plan that combines their blood, the Oct-Geneses, and Trion Tower to transform said Claudel candidate into a being who can utilize the Oct-Geneses to hack Laegjarn's Chest momentarily, empower herself at that moment to act as if the Sept-Terrion of Time was herself. Agnès overrides the Grand Reset termination protocol with a reboot branch, saving the Zemuria dimension as a file, but at the cost of her existence as symbolized when she was erased from the memory of her first meeting with Van Arkride.

This event marks the beginning the Eternal Recurrence Plan of the Orpheus Final Plan.

Trivia[]

  • In Norse Mythology, "Laegjarn" is a chest with 9 locks containing the sword of Lævateinn crafted by Loki.
  • The Grand Reset's reboot can also convert a selected dimension into a recovered, protected file.
