Lloyd Bannings (ロイド・バニングス) is the leader of the Crossbell Police Department's Special Support Section. He is the main protagonist of Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure, and one of the three main protagonists of Trails into Reverie.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Lloyd appears as a young man with short brown hair and eyes. He dresses with khaki pants, dark brown boots, and a yellow-orange shirt which is worn behind his signature CSPD blue and white jacket. In the Trails to Azure epilogue, the yellow-orange shirt is replaced with a red shirt after the Azure Tree aftermath.
In his later appearance, Lloyd retains most of his outfit, wearing only the jacket open, revealing a red shirt underneath. His hair is slightly longer and he has grown taller.
Lloyd uses twin tonfas in battle, feature long black metal bars with silver plates and a red orbment. He later acquires Guy's tonfas which are slightly rounder and have some indentations in them.
Personality[]
Lloyd is a kind young man who cares for the well-being of others and his country. He had a good relationship with his family until their deaths, but despite his traumatic past, it does not keep him down. His determination and method to approaching problems makes him well liked by many, including criminals like Cao Lee and Garcia Rossi.
He is an earnest youth honest and logical, all the while zealously opposing injustice and violence. He cares for KeA and is always concerned for her well-being ever since meeting her.
Lloyd is rather dense when it comes to interpersonal relationship and frequently say sweet things which caused other to feel flustered.
Background[]
Born in S.1186, Lloyd lost his parents to an accident at the age of 3. From that moment onward, his brother Guy Bannings, a renowned and respected investigator for the Crossbell Police Department's First Division, became his most important role model. Lloyd lived in Crossbell City with his older brother and his fiance, whom he considers family after the tragic orbalship accident that claimed the lives of the brothers' parents.
Guy mysterious death in the line of duty in S.1201, left his younger brother and fiance behind and the truth unknown, striking Lloyd hard. This event forced Lloyd to move in with his uncle in Calvard. Determined to succeed his brother, he signed up for the Police Academy in Crossbell and graduated in S.1203 with excellent achievements. Part of his training at the academy was survival training in the Knox Forest.
During this time, Lloyd was taught combat skills for his tonfa by Douglas, who served a Police Academy instructor at the time.
Trails from Zero[]
In S.1204, Sergei Lou invites Lloyd Bannings to lead the newly established Special Support Section in Crossbell, an outreach program which does bracer-like activities to improve the reputation of the police. Even with Lloyd's skills are possessive enough to be part of the Department's First Investigation Division, Lloyd chose to remain with the SSS in believing as the correct path to discover the truth behind his brother's death. He is joined there by Elie MacDowell, Tio Plato, and Randy Orlando.
Their recognition to the city progressively built through case by case, eventually bringing real change to its political and social landscape. Their superiors praised their efforts for preventing the mayor's assassination. Thanks to Lloyd's sharp intuition, the SSS have earned the respect of trustworthy allies from two certain bracer siblings, a little-lost kitten, and come into a clash with forces like Revache. While investigating the Mafia, the SSS rescues a mysterious child, KeA, awakening an ancient cult lying dormant in the Land of Fate.
Trails to Azure[]
Trails to Azure starts with Lloyd Banning and Noel Seeker joining Arios MacLaine and Alex Dudley in Calvard on a mission to clean up the remnants of the cult. Upon return to Crossbell, the SSS is re-established with Noel and Wazy Hemisphere inducted as temporary members while Tio and Randy are busy with other matters. Tension rise as as its revealed that the Red Constellation, West Zemuria's most powerful Jaeger corp, have entered the city in lieu of the upcoming West Zemuria Trade conference while strange monsters called cryptids have started appearing along the borders of the state. This comes to a head with terrorist attack on the recently completed Orchis Tower and Dieter's dramatic declaration. In the midst of all the chaos, the SSS uncovers an ancient conspiracy going back a thousand years.
Trails of Cold Steel II[]
When Crossbell was first occupied by the Imperial Army, Lloyd worked as a resistance member. On behalf of Cao Lee, Lloyd and Rixia Mao were tasked with backing up data from Orbal Network terminals in the Geofront. During the operation, Lloyd was confronted by Altina Orion and Rean Schwarzer, the latter of which was working as a special military officer of Crossbell's General Government.
Lloyd managed to hold off Rean long enough to backup the data, after which Rean summoned Valimar to destroy the computer as a whole. After formally introducing themselves, Rean allowed Lloyd to escape with the data. Both men could tell that they were good people, but Rean was conflicted with his actions, while Lloyd did not appear to mind, having understood his duties.
Trails of Cold Steel III[]
Lloyd was branded a fugitive by Governor General Rufus Albarea and became a wanted criminal by the authorities. Privately, many Crossbellans supported Lloyd's cause. He and the rest of the SSS were forced into the Mishelam area as part of Rufus' birdcage strategy, but Randy and Tio were allowed to leave, the former becoming an instructor at the Thors Branch Campus and the latter working on behalf of the Epstein Foundation.
After the Crossbell field study, Rufus decided to let Lloyd and the remaining members of the SSS go. Lloyd was seen with Arios and KeA as the Derfflinger returned to the branch campus, where he gave a fist bump to Rean.
Trails of Cold Steel IV[]
Lloyd accompanies Estelle, Joshua, Renne, Elie and KeA in a mission to infiltrate the Mystic Core of Orchis Tower and establish what happened in Erebonia.
Lloyd is present at the the multi-national summit on board the Pantagruel, where Lloyd promised to help Rean through his troubles and had forgiven him for the Geofront incident. He is later part of the Crossbell team that attacks one of the fake Salt Pales and comes to the final battle against Ishmelga-Loge. He subsequently attended Olivert and Scherazard's wedding alongside the rest of the SSS.
Trails into Reverie[]
Lloyd returns as the leader of the SSS, storming Orchis Tower and ousting the remnants of Rufus' personal guard and the Imperial Defense Force. After this event, and in the days leading up to the independence signing ceremony, Lloyd takes part in several preparatory missions and outstanding tasks. During one of these, he notices a ghostly shadow (a sprout of digital Pleroma Grass) after an archaism extermination mission, but can make nothing of it at the time.
At the independence ceremony itself, Lloyd tries to resist against the appearance of Supreme Leader Rufus Albarea, but he and the SSS are swiftly beaten and the crowd starts to turn on them as a result of a curse-like phenomenon. They flee the city and take part in resistance efforts elsewhere. Lloyd is part of several missions, including trying to locate allies such as KeA and Ilya at the Sun Fort, where they face off against Cao Lee and Garcia, a mission to the Reinford military factory in a mission to rescue Erika Russell and Professor Seiland from F. Novartis, where they face off against a simulacrum of McBurn and barely escape the flaming destruction of the facility, and the operation to relieve Sonya Baelz from the Ebon Defense Force at the Moon Temple.
Lloyd later leads a group in the retaking of Crossbell, and later the battle against Elysium at the Retributive Tower. Ishmelga Rean notes that Lloyd, a simple detective was the first to deduce the nature of his existence and what is going on. Lloyd later takes part in a rescue operation to save C, declining an offer of future information from one of Elysium's final predictions.
In the aftermath, Lloyd and the SSS finally witness the independence and liberation of Crossbell for the time being, and Lloyd is recognised by the state for his extraordinary contributions, making a speech.
