The time comes for Olivier and Mueller to return to the Empire, but one more surprise awaits them first.

Return to the Empire (帝都への帰還) is the eighth Star Door in Trails in the Sky the 3rd.

Star Door 8 can be found in the Luminous Labyrinth 2 Map 1. Olivier Lenheim and Mueller Vander are required to open this door.

Alert to the machinations of Giliath Osborne in their homeland of Erebonia, Olivert and Mueller start their plans to oppose the chancellor. They meet with Davil Crainagh, Erebonia's ambassador and obtain his support. Olivert plans to start in Liberl and use the Arseille to start his campaign. Mueller cautions Olivert about his flamboyant actions and arousing suspicion, followed immediately by Secretary Lechter Arundel's arrival. Knowing of his competence and loyalty to the chancellor, the pair begin to think they should have prepared for him.

The following day, Olivert has an audience with Queen Alicia von Auslese and Cassius Bright who requests passage to Hamel for Estelle and Joshua Bright. They all discuss the chancellors power play in sending the steam tanks to Liberl and what can be done about Erebonia. Olivert consoles Princess Klaudia von Auslese about her leadership skills and encourages her actions. To the surprise of all, Giliath Osborne himself arrives in Liberl and requests an audience, citing he had some spare time and that is was nothing more than a cordial visit.Osborne exchanges pleasantries with everyone and requests a private meeting with Olivert.

Olivert takes the opportunity to call Osborne out on the coincidental circumstances surrounding various annexations he has made and his ever expanding influence and power. Osborne respond stating Olivert is a national hero and requests that he work with him against the stagnant nobility and bring true reform. Olivert questions the Chancellor about his links to Ouroboros to which he doesn't deny but says he is willing to use every resource at his disposal. Olivert declines to participate in what he calls the ever strengthen storm. After the meeting, Mueller notices Olivier looks tired and the latter wonders just whom he has now picked a fight.

Lechter meets with Klaudia and they discuss things that have happened since their time at Jenis Royal Academy two years ago. Lechter explains he's been with the Chancellor even before the academy and does what he does for fun, before leaving.

Osborne and Lechter discuss their own moves on their way back to Erebonia, with Lechter stating he may not be loyal forever. An announcement interrupts them, and it is signalling Olivert's passing on the high speed Arseille where he shoots a rose and scatters petals, a gesture of his defiance towards Osborne who accepts the challenge and looks forward to seeing how long the prince can resist him.
