Orbments (
Background[]
The first orbments were developed in S.1150 from observation and application of the orbal phenomenon, discovered by Claude Epstein through the uses of the eight Oct-Geneses. This invention marked the beginning of the Orbal Revolution, and orbments quickly became an integral part in all facets of life, e.g. lights, heaters, domestic devices, weapons, and airships.
In the present there are several organizations involved in the research and development of orbments:
- The Epstein Foundation, created by Epstein's disciples in Leman.
- The Zeiss Central Factory, originally the Zeiss Clockmaker's Union, in Liberl.
- The Reinford Group, originally an arms manufacturer, in Erebonia.
- The Verne Company, a collaboration between the Basel Institute of Science and the Craftsman's Guild, in Calvard.
Description[]
Tactical orbments are a type of orbment developed for the personal use of the magic abilities known as orbal arts. Each tactical orbment is unique to their owner, which results in differences in lines and element-locked slots, which restrict the quartz that can be equipped in that slot to that of their element. Orbments can be improved in orbal factories through the use of sepith, unlocking or upgrading slots.
The characteristics of orbments change as the technology improves, making orbments with more slots or more powerful type of quartz like master quartz.
Energy Points[]
To be able to use orbal arts, a character needs to have Energy Points (EP). The maximum amount of energy points a character can have depends on their orbment and can be improved by unlocking or upgrading its slots.
Quartz[]
Quartz (
There can be restrictions to equipping quartz: element-locked slots only accept quartz of the same element, and there cannot be two copies of the same quartz in an orbment.
Lists of Quartz[]
See the following pages for lists of quartz and master quartz in each game.

Tactical Orbment Types[]
4th Generation[]
Characters in Sky FC use this type of orbment, with 6 slots for quartz. Quartz equipped provide an elemental value to the slot's line, with the central slot providing to all lines. Orbal arts are then made available depending on each line's total elemental value, making single-line orbments able to use more powerful arts.
In Sky SC and Sky the 3rd the orbment is upgraded to a new model with 7 slots. Additionally, the slots in the new model can be upgraded, allowing more powerful quartz to be equipped.
Only one quartz that affects the same stat or causes attacks to inflict status effects can be equipped in one orbment.

ENIGMA[]
Characters in Zero use this type of orbment, functionally identical to the ones in Sky SC and Sky the 3rd, but with added communication functionality.
In Azure and Akatsuki the orbment is upgraded to the ENIGMA II, which changes the central slot for a master quartz slot. Master quartz are one-of-a-kind quartz that provide several unique effects and stat bonuses, and can be leveled up to improve them. Master quartz also have their own elemental values which increase with their level.
Only one quartz that affects the same stat or causes attacks to inflict status effects can be equipped in one orbment.

ARCUS[]
Characters in Cold Steel I and II use this type of orbment, with a central master quartz slot and 8 slots for regular quartz. The ARCUS has two major differences with previous orbments: it enables the use of combat links, and the elemental value system is replaced with the ability to equip quartz that directly enable the use of specific orbal arts.
Quartz can be categorized as Normal (N), Rare (R), or Super Rare (SR). While in Cold Steel the slots can equip any type of quartz, in Cold Steel II the slots need to be upgraded in order to equip higher rarity quartz. Cold Steel II's ARCUS also allows the use of Overdrive.
Unlike in previous orbments, more than quartz that affects the same stat can be equipped in one orbment, as long as they're not identical. Several status effect or stat reduction inflicting quartz, but only one status effect and one stat reduction quartz can be equipped on each line.
In Cold Steel III and IV, and Reverie the orbment is upgraded to the ARCUS II, which trades a regular quartz slot for a sub-master quartz slot, allowing two master quartz to be equipped in the same orbment, but only 7 regular quartz. The master and the sub-master quartz cannot be the same, but one master quartz can be used in two separate orbments, one in the master slot and another in the sub-master slot.
Reverie also introduces Ultra Rare (UR) quartz, which need the same slot level as SR quartz.
