The Republican Army of Calvard (カルバード軍(きょうわこくぐん)), commonly referred to as the Republican Army (共和国軍(きょうわこくぐん)), is the national military force of Calvard.

Background

Although not as prominent and pervasive in Republican culture and life compared to their neighbour, Erebonia, Calvard boasts the second strongest army on the continent. The army may have its roots in the Revolution Army, led by Sheena Dirke and commander Ulgar Atkinson.

Previously, the last generation of Calvard's military hardware was developed by David Callaghan, but he was superseded in the developmental of Calvard's most contemporary generation of military hardware by Yang Cronkite, who worked with the Verne Company and the Marduk Company to develop it.

Calvard use mixed armor and airship divisions as part of their military doctrine. These units are known as Armored Aviation divisions. Their highly mobile tanks and gunships allow them to attack from the ground and sky at once.

Trails to Azure

A newly developed armored aviation division crosses into Crossbell when the Azure-Zero Project nears its complettion and Dieter Crois declares an independent Crossbell and asset freeze upon Calvard. The division is quickly destroyed by the Aion Type-β. The army remains on standby whilst the Azure Tree is present.

Trails of Cold Steel I, II, III, and IV

A Republican army base has existed on the eastern plains of the Nord Highlands ever since Gaius Worzel was young. this base is attacked and peace threatened during one of Class VII's field studies.

Trails of Cold Steel IV

The republican army makes up the majority of the forces of the Mille Mirage. They were forced to give up the secrets of their latest gunship model in exchange for the release of the captured Hercules forces. The Great War also marks the debut of the Baten Kaitos air ship- the largest in their fleet. Many republican army divisions are seen engaging Erebonian forces at the start of the Great War.

Trails into Reverie

A group of Calvardian Wezen series tanks are taken over by a hostile AI and used to threaten the Nord Highlands. Rean Schwarzer successfully destroy the relay controlling the tanks and resolve the threat.

Later, Elysium threatens to destroy the Baratier Air Base with its Keraunos weapon.

Trails through Daybreak

The latest generation of Calvardian military hardware is under development, headed by Yang Cronkite. The developer of the previous generation, David Callaghan grows frustrated that technology is moving beyond him, leading him to work with Almata.

The latest generation of technology was developed jointly between Marduk and Verne, and makes use of the Schedar series tank, the successor to the Wezen series, with double the top speed and triple the range. There is also the IX-Alba Class heavy flight cruiser, 120 arge long which is being tested by the Marduk company. It can retain independent control of multiple units and it is said a single ship could overwhelm a division of the Imperial Fleet. Lastly, the Assault Frame which is a humanoid weapon, is being developed in Basel and acts as a successor to the Panzer Soldat. These developments are unveiled to the public on Revolution Day by president Roy Gramheart.

Creil Village is blocked of by the army following the activation of a reactor weapon there.

Gramheart has the army prepare for operations towards the Zeque Military Space Base, located in the Ishgal mountains.

Soldiers of a Calvardian military base are massacred by Grendel Zolga.

A new model of gunship known as the Alphecca class is deployed as part of the rollout of next-generation military hardware.

Organisation

Military Armored Divisions

The Military Armored Divisions (方面軍) are tank divisions paired with Armored Aviation Divisions and gunships of the Air Force of the Republican Army and stationed in certain regions. The following divisions have been deployed:

• 1st Area Division: for Operation Mille Mirage during the Battle of Jormungandr, Area Divisions 1 through 8 formed the first line of defense to stop the Imperial Army of Erebonia from invading through Crossbell.
• 2nd Area Division: skirmish against the Imperial Army's 3rd Air Fleet at the airspace above Erebonia's Kreuzen Province and Calvard's Province de Auge in August S.1206. Afterwards, they joined the 1st Area Division as first line of defense at Tangram Hills, Crossbell, in September S.1206, alongside twenty Armored Aviation Divisions (280,000 troops).
• 3rd through 8th Area Divisons: joined the 1st Area Division as first line of defense at Tangram Hills, Crossbell, in September S.1206.
• 11th Area Army: for Operation Mille Mirage during the Battle of Jormungandr, it formed the Kreuzen line of defense to stop the Imperial Army from invading through the Aurochs Canyon, alongside two Armored Aviation Divisions (50,000 troops).
• 12th through 14th Area Divisions: for Operation Mille Mirage during the Battle of Jormungandr, these formed the Nord line of defense to stop the Imperial Army from invading through the Zender Gate, in September S.1206, alongside five Armored Aviation Divisions (100,000 troops).

Armored Aviation Divisions

The Armored Aviation Divisions (空挺機甲師団) a fleet paired with the Military Armored Divisions and gunships of the Air Force. The Armored Aviation Divisions are the main force of the Republican Army. It started deploying Assault Frames in S.1208. The following divisions have been deployed:

• 2nd Armored Aviation Division "Canopus": invaded Crossbell under Erebonian occupation in March S.1205. Engaged in combat with the Imperial Army's 9th Armored Division.
• 11th Division: deployed at Edith's 2nd Garrison in March S.1209.
• Armored Aviation Division "Aldebaran": deployed in Nord Highlands in June S.1204.

Air Force

The Air Force (空軍飛行艦隊) is a fleet of airships consisting of large flagship flying battleships escorted by gunships.

Navy

The navy (海軍) operates from their naval port in Langport. During the Battle of Jormungandr, the Republican Navy "could go toe to toe" in battle with the invading 1st and 2nd Naval Fleets, Imperial Marine Corpsand two Airship Divisions of the Imperial Army in Titith Bay, Liberl.

Also situated at the naval port in Langport is Calvard's South Sea Armada (南海艦隊).

Space Force

Main article: Zeku Space Base

The Space Force (宇宙軍) is a secret military branch of the Republican Army. Its development at the Zeku Space Base has been under direct control of Presidential Office.

Hercules

The special task force Hercules operate as a branch of the Central Intelligence Department (CID).
