This page explains the mechanics of status effects (状態変化) in Trails of Cold Steel I and II.

Overview[]

A status effect is any alteration that applies to units in combat, characterized by an icon above the unit on the field, and an icon above their stats display in the user interface.

Various effects can be applied through the use of arts, crafts, equipped quartz that modify the user's attacks, or by enemy skills. Status effects are classified depending on how they affect the unit: stat modifiers are effects that directly increase or reduce the unit's stats (STR, DEF, ATS, ADF, SPD and MOV), while abnormal status are other types of effects that can be beneficial or detrimental. Detrimental abnormal statuses are also referred as ailments.

Only one application of a particular status effect can be active on a unit. For stat modifiers, effects (both positive and negative) can be stacked up to +50% or down to -50% for each stat, with the duration of the effect being that of the latest modifier applied.

From Cold Steel onwards, stat modifiers now take into account equipment or quartz stat increases when calculating the modification.

Duration[]

The duration of a status effect is determined by the type of effect and method of application. Most effects have a duration expressed in turns, but some effects are permanent until cured or the end of battle, or last only for a certain amount of attacks. Note that the turn to prepare an art will not count towards status effects' duration and the effect itself.

Status Vulnerability[]

Each enemy has a different set of vulnerabilities for each status effect (and stat reductions and AT Delay). The chance of inflicting a certain status effect is multiplied by the enemy's vulnerability to that status effect to obtain the final chance of inflicting it. The chance can go higher than 100%, making it more likely than usual to inflict that status effect. Player characters can resist status effects by equipping various pieces of equipment, which are guaranteed to resist the effect.

Delay Vulnerability[]

When a character has several sources of delay (from quartz and crafts) each source will roll the chance to apply according to the vulnerability independently of the others, meaning the total chance of applying delay is:

Character cannot be targeted or damaged by enemy attacks.
Physical attacks are guaranteed to deal critical damage.
Wears off or until character attacks.
Insight (Sen Status) Insight

Cold Steel: Increases ACC% and EVA% by 50%, and unbalance chance by 10%.
Cold Steel II: Increases ACC% and EVA% by 50%.
Wears off.
Craft Guard (Sen Status) Craft Guard
物理防御
Immunity to normal attacks, crafts, and S-Crafts. Permanent until hit.
Craft Reflect (Sen Status) Craft Reflect [note 1]

Take 45-55% of max HP as damage after every turn.
Overwrites Freeze, cannot be overwritten.
Wears off.
Deathblow (Sen Status) Deathblow
即死
Reduced to 0 HP instantly. One-time effect.
K.O.
戦闘不能
Can't battle.
All CP lost.
Permanent (even out of battle) until revived.
