“Uncertainty weighs on the hearts of all people, but it's far preferable to standing still.”
— Victor Arseid to Rean Schwarzer after their duel, Trails of Cold Steel
Victor S. Arseid (ヴィクター・S・アルゼイド), also known as the Radiant Blademaster (光の剣匠), is the Viscount of Legram, captain of the Courageous and the father of Class VII member Laura S. Arseid.
He also leads the Arseid family, which stretches back for centuries, and heads the Arseid School of swordsmanship.
Profile
Appearance
A well-built man within his 40s, with deep blue hair, a small beard, and emerald eyes. He wears a long over-coat tan ocean blue jacket with white and black separate stripe lining, underneath the jacket is a grey-brown button setup battle vest attach to a light-blue stripe shirt, then has on a dark-violet stripe shirt underneath that, a tied emerald scarf dangling down to his waist. He also wears a double-belt strap around the waist, tan bare color pants, violet royal style boots, brown gloves. He wields the Galland-Sharl (ガランシャール), an immense great-sword and traditional family heirloom to the Ariseid family, swinging it with one hand.
Personality
Victor embodies the traits of a true nobleman who shows great devotion and support to others. He is kind, caring, wise and offers sage advice. As the head instructor of the family's swordsmanship, he can be serious, stern and a strict lecturer on those he tests the true mettle of in combat, and when confronting a foe of measure. In many cases, he is shown to be ever calm, collective and keeping a straight face against hostile elements be it in democracy or upon the battlefield. Another important aspect, Victor shows that he is a caring father who shows love for his daughter, seeing her as his precious child that means the world to him. He cares enough to ensure her future is a happy one: even to the point of talking to Rean to establish how their relationship is.
As an ethical man, the Viscount is well-liked among the people of Legram. He values and embraces the peace his people have, and vows to protect the harmony even if it means disappointing the higher nobles.
Background
Victor was born as the heir to the Arseid Viscounty in S.1161.[1] He grew up honing his swordsmanship, earning him the title of Radiant Blademaster and making him one of the most strongest swordsmen in Erebonia.[1] Victor eventually married and had a daughter, Laura. His wife's whereabouts are unknown, so he ended up raising Laura as a single father.
He wields the Galland-Sharl, a greatsword that has been passed down in the Arseid Family for generations. It is a legendary blade forged during the War of the Lions and originally wielded by the Victor's ancestor, Sion Arseid, the second-in-command of the Eisenritter.[2][3]
Despite being the Viscount of Legram, Victor spends most of his time travelling across Erebonia, giving him very little free time. To maintain his territory, he entrusted Klaus, the family butler, to serve as acting master and ruler in his stead. During his travels, he met Toval Randonneur, a bracer and allowed him to maintain a guild branch in his territory.
Trails of Cold Steel I and II
Victor is introduced during Trails of Cold Steel, where Class VII visits Legram as part of their field studies. His reunion with his daughter Laura after her enrollment at Thors Military Academy is heart-warming. Over dinner, Victor comments he senses a fear or hesitation in the swordsmanship of her fellow classmate Rean Schwarzer. Rean requests a duel, which he gladly accepts. Victor forces Rean to use his latent ogre power, but he still bests him despite holding back.
“What we call power is simply a measure of one's raw strength. Without knowing how to properly apply it, it has no real meaning. However, when you deny the power you already possess, you're only shortchanging yourself.”
— Victor Arseid, Trails of Cold Steel
The following day, Duke Cayenne paid a personal visit to Victor, requesting that he join his alliance. Victor humbly refused his request, so Croire warned him not to interfere by training the Imperial Army. Victor interprets Duke Cayenne's visit as an indicator that he is preparing to act; hearing that Croire is forcing hesitant or reluctant nobles to join his cause, Victor decides to travel across Erebonia to support nobles unwilling to join the Noble Alliance.
Per request of Prince Olivert Reise Arnor, who seeks to find a political path aligned with neither noble nor reformist faction, he becomes the first captain of the Courageous. He continues to serve as the captain's ship after the outbreak of the Erebonian Civil War. When Prince Olivert disembarks to join the frontlines in West Erebonia, he temporarily passes down the role of captain, hat included, to Towa Herschel. Since then, he has been working separately until he regrouped with Class VII at the war's climax.
Victor returned in time to save Class VII from their fight against Ouroboros Enforcer No. I, McBurn in the Infernal Castle. Victor manages to stand his ground against the Blazing Demon, wielding his Demonic Sword Angbar and signature black flames. Class VII makes way for this duel that transcends the limits of ordinary humans. Though the two were evenly matched, Victor suffered respiratory problems as a result of McBurn's black flames, causing his swordsmanship to slightly falter.
Trails of Cold Steel III
After the conclusion of the war, Victor resumed his duties as captain of the Courageous. As Prince Olivert's influence gradually receded, so does Victor's radius of action. His visit to the newly established Thors Branch Campus in Leeves resulted in a duel with his former pupil, Principal Aurelia Le Guin. He compliments her growth as she emerges victorious.

While overseeing the Courageous in the Gral of Erebos, it is blown apart by Copper Georg, apparently resulting in his death.
Trails of Cold Steel IV
In part due to George's fickleness, the bombs had a delayed detonation. Believing that he was going to die, he and the others onboard were surprised when someone offered to help by generating a barrier that would protect them from the explosion. The barrier began cracking however, so Victor used his sword in an attempt to seal the breach. This was mostly successful, but Victor ended up losing his left arm in the process; regardless, his swordsmanship did not appear to be impeded in any way.
He somehow ended up getting separated from Olivert and Toval, where the Erebonian Curse prepared another role for him: to test Rean as Awakener before his next Rivalry in the Orchis Tower. Although he and McBurn overpowered Class VII, Laura managed to dispel her father's curse by demonstrating her successful inheritance of his signature move.
For the final series of battles against Ishmelga, Victor lends Class VII his sword once again. He joins one of the parties assaulting the fake salt pillars, clearing a way through it to the depths where he vanquishes a copy of the Aion Type Alpha II alongside Vita, Aurelia and Toval. He would also take part in the climatic battle against Ishmelga-Roge.
Trails into Reverie
Victor made a brief appearance during the attack on Reverse Babel, where he was teleported in with Aurelia, Vandyck, Matteus and Wallace Bardias by Vita and Roselia help repel a spiritual attack from the massive weapon.
