Yang Cronkite (ヤン·クロンカイト) is a professor at the Basel Institute of Science introduced in Trails through Daybreak.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Yang is a slender middle-aged man with dark grey hair and amber eyes with glasses. His hair has a visible grey streak. Yang wears a white lab oat over a white shirt, purple neck tie, black waistcoat and red trousers.
Personality[]
Yang is a serious and stoic individual devoted to his research. He is described a man of few words but cold to anyone who could not get their work done, it is thought unlikely that he would harass anyone however. Yang does not put much stock in his lineage or ethnic background, being more concerned with disposition and fate.
Background[]
Yang and his father lived in Langport originally before moving to Basel where he has lived ever since. His father was torn between being a merchant and a researcher until his end.
Yang is the first disciple of Professor Latoya Hamilton. He was known as a young genius in Calvard's world of technology, having developed groundbreaking technology even before the Great War, appeared in the Tyrell Times and being regarded as the greatest genius since his mentor. In the present, he teaches physics and orbal engineering at the Basel Institute of Science. he and David Callaghan competed in their fields for years until Yang finally overcame him.
Together with Esmeray Archette and Quatre Salision, the group acted as one happy family under Hamilton. Yan used his astronomic observations and knowledge to teach Quatre and assist with engineering projects, including XEROS.
Trails through Daybreak[]
Yan is extremely busy working in Basel at the start of the story, owing to his secret projects and work on the next generation of Calvard's military technology with President Roy Gramheart's administration. It is for this reason he plans to leave Basel. he first meets up with Renne, mentioning that he has read her thesis and would be pleased to discuss things with her. With his own project due to enter its final phase, he argues with David Callaghan over overtaxing the orbal network too much.
Van and the party eventually seek yang out and discuss matters with him, including David links to Almata. Yang had deduced much of what was going on but does not lend any aid until Quatre can finish FIO and XEROS, wanting him to find the answer himself. After showing Yang the Oct-Geneses, he gives them information on David's research. When the city is attacked by Archaisms he helps evacuate civilians. Yang had predicted the course of events to some extend, and had completed his work in Basel, but remained due to obligation to his students. He helps them deduce what David is planning now that he is an AI. He turns up at Callaghan's demise and says he will make good use of what he has left behind. Yang is next seen meeting with Gramheart, whom Yang views as much more competent than Bill Tausend. Cronkite and Gramheart are shown discussing about a plan to build a space base, implying that Calvard will be the first nation in Zemuria to have a space program.
On Revolution Day, Yang meets with Cao Lee and Gilliam Thorndyke on a rooftop. They discuss humanoid weapons like the Panzer Soldats and Assault Frames and their capacity for martial arts. The topic turns to Yang's past and then to cafes in the capital. he remains with them when Pandemonium envelops the city, finding the phenomenon fascinating. he decides against going out to investigate, enjoying his coffee and awaiting more information. He helps contribute to breaking the barrier around the Vantail District and Genesis Tower.
In the New Year, he travels back to Basel to spend time with Quatre, Latoya, and Esmeray.
